Swoopo Auctions Buzzing From the First to the Last Second
Founded in Germany in 2005, Swoopo is one of the world’s most innovative auction sites. According to its Web site, the company sells premium products like: computers, cameras, game consoles and even cars, at very low prices based on a unique software solution and business model. The company’s Web site says Swoopo auctions over 10,000 products per month and has more than 1.2 million registered customers.
Here’s how it works: online customers buy “bids” in advance. They are sold in packs of 40, 75, 150, 400 or 1,000, and cost 60 cents each. Bidders can choose one of these options: place single bids, or use an electronic bid assistant called “BidButler.”
Every bid placed increases the price of the product by 12 cents and the auction countdown by up to 20 seconds. The amount spent on bids by the customer and how much the bidder would save overall, if they won the auction at that moment are displayed on each auction to help the customer keep track of the money spent on bidding.
The “last bidder standing” when the countdown reaches 0:00 wins the auction — usually at a very low price. According to the company Web site, winners save, on average, 65 percent when compared to the recommended retail price.
In December 2007, Swoopo was successfully launched in the UK, followed by Spain in May 2008 and the US and Austria in September 2008.
Swoopo is an Internet company with a unique, worldwide business model. Swoopo states it is the creator of “Entertainment Shopping” on the Internet, and, one of the first companies to combine e-commerce and entertainment. From the first to the last second, all of its auctions are buzzing. Top of the range, brandname products are available for every user at extraordinarily low prices, Swoopo’s Web site states.
Its Web site states that the company’s staff has the passion and ambition to carry the Swoopo idea from its origin in Munich to the rest of the world, on the way establishing the company as a major international e-commerce player.
Web Auctions
Most Internet users are aware of eBay and how it works. People put things up for sale, and users bid on the things they want. At the end of the auction, whoever has bid the most money wins the item. Though eBay is large and profitable, it is only one of many web auctions on the Internet. There are many online, you just have to find them.
Some sites have web auctions for just about anything you can dream of, while others specialize. There are some just for tools, and others just carry clothing, shoes, and accessories. If you can’t find something on eBay, you may find it on one of those other sites. You may also find a better price because the site is not as popular as eBay, and not as many people are bidding on the item you are looking to buy.
Some folks use these smaller web auctions to find bulk items to sell for a profit on eBay. This can work if you are willing to put the time into looking for exactly what you need. You might want to study eBay to see what sells well, and the average price for each item. You can even buy higher priced items like DVD players or digital recorders to sell for a profit on eBay.
One problem with other web auctions is that it can be a bit iffier than dealing with eBay. Though these other sites may have the same rules as eBay does about above board conduct, the other sites don’t have the power behind them that eBay does. This means that if something goes wrong, you may not be able to get your money back, or the dud you bought might be something you just have to live with.
A friend of mine decided to try website auctions as a new way to make some extra cash. She bought two high-end digital camcorders on a smaller auction site, and put them on eBay. Despite a few bumps, she ended up selling both. The problem was that, the second model turned out to be wrong. She had to return the money to the buyer, and ended up having to keep the bad equipment. Needless to say, she lost a lot of money on the venture.
So remember to use extra caution if you venture onto web auctions other than those hosted by eBay. Check everything over carefully when you get it, and remember to read the fine print. This might also be great advice for users on eBay as well. Even though this site is established and the most popular, there are still problems that can crop up if you don’t pay attention.

Buying and Selling is Easy Using Online Auctions
Online auctions are probably the easiest, fastest, and most accessible way to buy what you need right from your home computer. If you don't have a lot of time in your busy life to shop, using an online auction for your purchasing is a great way to find lots of selection on whatever you're looking for.
For a number of reasons, a lot of people today find online buying a very convenient way to shop. People everywhere can now have access to merchandise that would normally be very difficult to purchase in their immediate areas. These days, online auctions are so popular that just about everybody has heard of them, and probably even tried them.
Selling Basics
Selling products through an online auction such as eBay is very simple. It’s as simple as finding a good site and signing up for an account. You might find that a few of these sites charge a fee; however, most of them are free. Be aware, however, that those sites which charge a fee often have advantages that justify the cost.
Deciding which items to sell is the next step. For example, start with items you have around the house which you no longer need or want. Once you have some experience, you might want to start shopping at garage sales, discount stores and factory outlets for merchandise that you can use for eBay online selling.
Before putting any items up for sale, be sure to read over the terms and conditions of the online auction site and make note of your responsibilities and possible liabilities. To steer clear of any problems with a customer, establish a policy of straightforward and honest transactions.
Buying Basics
It’s much easier to buy something from an online auction than it is to be a seller. Similar to selling, you have to register at whichever site interests you; once you have an account you can start bidding on items of interest. Before bidding on an item, be sure to check the seller’s reviews and history. This is valuable information as you make a decision on whether the vendor is trustworthy and can deliver as promised.
Once you’re reasonably sure the seller is on the up and up, you can place a bid and hope for the best. To make sure you get good value for your money, set a price limit for yourself so that the item you buy doesn’t cost more than it should, taking into consideration your time and effort.
When you’re looking for a certain item, it’s hard to beat online auctions for selection. Suddenly, shopping is more convenient and less expensive; just remember to shop wisely.
