Optimize Your Small Business Website With SEO

If you’re a small businessman these days, no one has to tell you that times are tough. Especially if you’re trying to find new ways of bringing in more customers that doesn’t cost an arm and leg. What a lot of small business owners miss is that they already have a resource that can bring in loads of new customers. And it’s sitting right under their nose. It’s their Website.

While many small businesses have Websites, very few are optimized so that local customers can find them. But the blame really can’t go to the small business person. They’re normally so caught up in the day to day operation of their business that they have no time to learn how to optimize their site. The tips below will help you optimize your small business website so that you can rank higher in the search engines. I asked a Guaranteed Houston SEO consultant how he managed to rank so many sites in Google’s top 10. It’s simple he said. Then he gave me the following tips.

Start by making your website user friendly. Remove all flash components or Javascript code that isn’t necessary. And no, your cool look Flash movie isn’t necessary. I know, I know, your web designer said you needed those. Or you thought they looked cool. I’ve seen a lot of studies published about the Customers experience when using a website. Everyone stated that Flash, Javascript and music turn off web users. Plus, search engines can not read Flash or Javascript code, so they add absolutely no SEO benefit to your Website. Ditch them.

You want to make sure that the main keyword that describes your business is in the Title of the main page. By failing to put your keywords in the Title, you failing to take advantage of a very important rule of SEO. If you own Bob’s Widget Company, then those three words should be in the Title of the main page.

Every page of your site should be about another aspect of your business. When you use each page of your site to describe a specific product or service, you’ll end up with many pages of unique content, each SEO optimized.

Now make sure that each of those unique pages has your keywords on the page. I can’t tell you how many times I see small business owners fail to do this. Normally using the keyword 2 to 3 times on the page is sufficient. Whatever you do, don’t go overboard with this step. It will make your page look spammy. Keyword abuse, or keyword stuffing as many call it, can get you penalized by the search engines. The last thing you want is to have to hire a [guaranteed Houston seo] company to clean up your online reputation after you ruined it!

Next, it’s all about the links. Incoming links to your site is what will get you ranked high. Make sure you create anchor text links that point back to your main page as well as the inner pages for maximum benefits. Instead of using the words ‘Click Here’ as the hypertext link, use keywords that describe your site as the hypertext link. Ideally, every link that goes to your site should be in anchor text. Never use the same anchor text over and over. Change it up a bit. It looks more natural when different anchor text is used to describe your site.

These tips will get your website moving up in the rankings in short order. If you’re unsure about how to go about it, then search for a SEO Specialist that does know how. Just be sure you get one that will not take your money and run!

6 SEO Mistakes to Avoid On Your Website

Many internet marketing beginners have a basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO).  Too many beginners want their websites to achieve ranking in the search engines without realizing that some of problems of doing so lay within their own site. This article presents 6 SEO mistakes to avoid.

1.Frames – Many people use frames when building their web pages.A problem arises because search engines have a difficult time tracking content in frames.Search engines cannot distinguish which frame contains the main content.

2.Flash – Flash is a popular way to make you website stand out. This might look pretty, but to search engines, the page may as well be blank.  Search engines cannot read Flash files, so you should avoid using Flash unless you are certain that your website can generate massive traffic by word of mouth.

3.Keyword Stuffing – Using too many keywords will cause your page ranking to go down.Having too many keywords causes search engines to think that your page is being spammed or that it is artificially created.Search engines want unique content.

4.Keyword Hiding – This is related to keyword stuffing.  Attempting to make keywords that are colored the same as your background, and effectively “hiding” them, will cause the search engines to downgrade your page ranking.  This again has to do with the search engines seeing too many keywords as spam.Search engines do not like to be tricked.

5.Text Inside Images – Avoid posting images with a caption embedded into the pixels of the image.  It is better, however, to post the image by itself and have the caption be written in HTML.Search engines use “spiders” to analyze and extract information for page ranking.Spiders will skip over text embedded into an image because they will assume the text is part of the image not stand alone text.  If the caption is written as separate HTML, the spiders will read that caption and include it for SEO purposes.

6.  Javascript Links – If you use links on your side, you need to make sure to use simple HTML links instead of Javascript controlled links.  The spiders will include those links when they are extracting information for ranking.

When an internet marketer is just starting out, search engine optimization can be a daunting challenge.By avoiding these mistakes, internet marketers will be off to a good start.Avoiding these mistakes as well as implementing other SEO techniques will cause your page to be ranked in no time.

SEO Is Easy With These 5 Tips

For the Average person, SE Optimization is something akin to black magic. As a Guaranteed SEO in Houston, I believe part of this misunderstanding is the result of all the snake oil flogged by a lot of SEO companies and individuals. Some do this because they don’t know any better while some others do it to justify the ongoing fees they charge their Clients. SEO isn’t brain surgery folks. It’s nothing more than systematically building and optimizing a website the same way over and over to achieve high rankings.

To set the foundation for your website, a person should make sure that your main keywords are used in the URL if it’s possible. When all things are equal, a site with your keywords in the domain name will outrank a website without the keywords included in the domain name.

Now that you have that done, the you keywords should be added in the Name of your Website. By doing this, you’re helping search engines like MSN determine what your Website is about.

It’s important to make certain keywords are a part of the Title of every page on your site, or at the bare minimum, some parts of a keyword phrase should be in the page Title. This also helps the search engines figure out what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. Plus, the Website or Blog should be designed so that the Page Title is in the H1 tag. Search engines rely a great deal on the H1 to tell them what the page is about and how relevant it is. If you’re using a web design company company, make certain they know how to do this one little thing.

Now that you have your domain, Website Title (Name) and Page Titles optimized with your keywords, it is important that the keywords you want to rank for show up within the page itself. You should place the main keyword of the page somewhere in the first paragraph and once or twice more in the article somewhere, especially near the end of the page. A few more times between the first and last paragraph is also a good idea, just be sure you work them in the beginning and end.

Finally, probably the most important thing of SEO actually takes place off site. In my opinion, the most important thing in obtaining a higher ranking is backlinks pointing to your site. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these links back to your site need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the links back to your site.

How important are backward links? I have ranked quite a few Websites that didn’t have the keywords in the URL, plus I can rank one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backward links going to your web page, {it’s impossible} to get ranked higher for any search terms that are the least bit in high demand.
